Update

Work started on Thursday 15 November 2018 on one of the most significant improvements to Tamworth’s road network in more than 40 years – construction of a second Jewry Street Bridge funded through $3.5 million from the Australian Government.

This project is another example of how Council is planning today for Tamworth tomorrow.

Why?

The current intersection at Jewry Street and Manilla Road is heavily congested in the morning and afternoon peak periods. The existing two lane Jewry Street Bridge is a constraint on providing additional travel lanes crossing the river to ease the congestion.

The construction of a second Jewry Street Bridge will end major traffic hold-ups and ensure Tamworth's road network is able to support increasing traffic volumes into the future.

What?

The Jewry Street Bridge Duplication is great news for all motorists who travel on Jewry Street or nearby roads on the northern perimeter of Tamworth’s CBD. The bridge will complete a major upgrade of the road network.

It will be the critical connection between the NSW Government-funded Manilla Road Upgrade and the western side of the Peel River. Upcoming Stage 3 Manilla Road Upgrade works includes a signalised intersection at Peel Street and a new carriageway to link it with the new bridge.

Once this project is completed, the motorists will benefit from two lanes in each direction on Manilla Road from Tribe Street to the Jewry Street intersection and across the Peel River.
